What is an ingrowing toe nail?

An ingrowing toe nail is when the side of the nail starts to curve and grow into the sides of the toe. If left untreated, it can cause extreme discomfort and pain. It is also common for a bacterial infection to develop in the area which may require treatment with antibiotics.

Suffering from persistent ingrowing toe nails?

If the toe fails to improve after basic chiropody, minor surgery can be carried out to permanently remove part of the nail which is causing the problem. This is carried out using a local anaesthetic so its pain free, removing the offending part of the nail. A chemical is used to ensure the painful part of the nail doesn't grow back again. With a 93% success rate, nail surgery is a highly effective treatment for perminantly correcting ingrowing toe nails.

What does the treatment entail?

Here at The Chiropody Surgery, your nail surgery appointment can last up to 1 hour depending on the number of toe nails that require surgery. The appointment will involve a medical history check to ensure the procedure is suitable for you followed by two appointments after the surgery to ensure the toe is healing normally.
